TRD - The Red Desert

The Red Desert is an adults-only retreat in Homestead Valley with a creative streak and a pool made for serious swimming. A 75-foot stretch of water faces the mountains, with a built-in hot tub and shaded lounging nearby. Inside, wood-paneled rooms, striking art and a pink sofa with rock-and-roll history give this desert house a character entirely its own. Come for the swimming, the music and the pleasure of having nowhere else to be.

The Red Desert feels more like the personal hideaway of an artist or musician than a conventional vacation rental. Warm wood, polished concrete, collected artwork and unexpected bursts of color create an atmosphere that is expressive without being precious. Large windows draw the desert into the open living spaces, while the easy connection between the kitchen, dining room and lounge makes it natural to spend an entire evening together. It's a home for adults who appreciate good design, a little eccentricity and the freedom to settle into their own rhythm.

-Outdoor Amenities-
The pool is the undeniable centerpiece of The Red Desert. At 75 feet long and 25 feet wide, it's an unusually generous place to swim, whether you're putting in proper laps or spending the afternoon floating with the mountains in view. A large in-ground hot tub is integrated into the pool, offering a warm place to unwind as the desert air cools.

Just beside the water, a shaded outdoor living area is furnished with deep, inviting lounge seating. It's as appealing for an afternoon with a book as it is for hours of conversation with friends. Red umbrellas punctuate the surrounding desert landscape, and the open mountain views provide a constantly changing backdrop. As daylight fades, the sky often fills with remarkable color before giving way to the stars.

-Living Area-
The living room has a personality all its own, led by a remarkable 13-foot pink sofa that once belonged to Johnny Hallyday, the legendary French singer. It's an unexpected piece of rock-and-roll history and a fitting centerpiece for a home that celebrates individuality.

Wood-paneled surfaces, large windows, bold artwork and thoughtfully collected furnishings give the room a relaxed California-modern character. There's plenty of space to stretch out, put on music, browse the books or gather around a board game. The atmosphere is comfortable and unpretentious, inviting guests to make themselves at home rather than treat the interiors like a showroom.

-Kitchen and Dining-
Cooking is part of the pleasure here. The open kitchen features a professional gas range, a substantial central island and generous counter space, making it well suited to preparing a proper meal together. Warm wood cabinetry and open shelving continue the home's distinctive aesthetic.

The adjoining dining area brings everyone around a glass-topped table with upholstered seating, while large windows frame the surrounding desert. With the kitchen, dining room and living area connected, meals can unfold at their own pace, from a leisurely breakfast to a dinner that turns into an evening of music and conversation.

-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-
The Red Desert has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, accommodating up to five adult guests. The sleeping spaces continue the home's warm, individual character, with natural wood finishes, relaxed textiles and thoughtfully chosen furnishings. One bedroom pairs golden bedding and patterned accents with a beautiful wood ceiling, creating a welcoming place to retreat after a day outdoors.

The bathrooms carry through the home's understated architectural style, including a distinctive deep concrete bathtub that invites a long soak. A washer and dryer are also available for guests.

With its creative interiors, extraordinary swimming pool and wide-open desert setting near the Integratron, The Red Desert is especially appealing to couples traveling together, close friends, artists and music lovers. It's a place to enjoy one another's company, appreciate the surroundings and experience a different side of the high desert.
