SHR - Solace Retreat

At the edge of Joshua Tree National Park, Solace Retreat is a private two-home sanctuary spread across ten wild desert acres. Wake to sunlight washing over the mountains, spend slow afternoons between the pool and spa, then gather by the fire as the sky turns gold. After dark, the desert falls silent and stars fill the horizon. With endless mountain views, mature Joshua trees and space to gather or retreat, this is quiet luxury shaped by landscape, light, and the warmth of being together.

Solace Retreat began with a simple idea: create the kind of place where people can be fully together without ever feeling crowded. The result is Solace House and Shadow House, two distinct homes connected by ten secluded acres, extraordinary desert views, and a shared sense of warmth, ease, and intention.

The main house is the heart of the retreat. Moody and grounded, it pairs limewashed walls, natural stone, warm woods, handcrafted finishes, sculptural desert elements, and curated artwork with spaces made for gathering. Large openings frame the mountains and bring the landscape into the home, while rich textures and softer light create an intimate atmosphere as evening settles in.

Nearby, the newly built casita offers a brighter, modern expression of the same design philosophy. High-pitched wood-slatted ceilings, raw Moroccan tile, white oak, natural stone, and expansive glass create a serene, self-contained second home with its own outdoor spaces and amenities.

Together, the two homes offer six bedrooms and six bathrooms, including five king suites, generous kitchens, indoor and outdoor dining spaces, and quiet corners throughout the property. Gather around a long table, spend the afternoon by the pool, walk directly into Joshua Tree National Park through the backyard, then retreat to separate homes, private patios, outdoor showers, or peaceful bedrooms when you want space of your own.

Every detail at Solace Retreat has been considered, from the art and materials to the way the rooms open toward the desert. It is polished but never precious, luxurious without feeling formal, and designed for the moments that become the reason for the trip: sunrise coffee, long dinners, pool days, firelit conversations, and unhurried time under the stars.

-Outdoor Amenities-
The landscape is not simply the view at Solace. It is part of how the retreat is experienced. Ten private acres unfold toward the mountains, filled with mature Joshua trees, native foliage, open sky, and protected desert land. From the backyard, you can walk directly into Joshua Tree National Park and experience the stillness and scale of the High Desert without getting into a car.

The pool and in-ground spa face gorgeous desert and mountain views. Settle into a long afternoon by the water, then move to the sunken conversation fire pit as the landscape turns gold. Two large outdoor dining tables create space for memorable group meals, while a third, smaller table is perfect for morning coffee or a quieter breakfast. A separate outdoor pad offers room for yoga, meditation, or a private sound bath surrounded by the desert. Elsewhere on the property, a stargazing net bed, hanging daybed, multiple outdoor showers, and thoughtfully placed seating areas invite you to find your own rhythm.

The casita has its own outdoor retreat, including a built-in hot tub, 6-foot cowboy tub soaking pool, gas fire pit, BBQ, outdoor dining, Sunbrella pouf loungers, a sunken floating hammock bed, and a private primary patio with a sectional and outdoor shower.

The days here begin with soft light across the mountains and end beneath vast, dark skies. Swim, read, share dinner, watch the sunset, or stay outside long after the fire is lit. There is always another corner to discover and enough space for everyone to experience the desert in their own way.

-Living Areas-
The main living area at Solace Retreat is moody, layered, and deeply comfortable. The large, floor to ceiling tiled gas fireplace anchors the space, while limewash walls, warm wood ceilings, and carefully curated art create a room that feels connected to the landscape while maintaining a distinct point of view. Large openings frame the desert and mountains by day, while the large tiled gas fireplace brings warmth and atmosphere after dark.

A generous u-shaped built-in sectional makes the room equally suited to slow mornings, cocktails before dinner, or movie nights on the large Frame TV. Nothing feels staged for display. The pieces, materials, and art have been selected to create intentional moments while still inviting guests to settle in and live comfortably.

The casita offers a second living area with a lighter, modern character. High-pitched wood-slatted ceilings and large sliding glass doors create a sense of openness, with desert views in every direction. A plush sofa, large smart TV, and Sonos speakers make it an easy place to relax, and the sofa opens into a queen bed when additional sleeping space is needed.

-Kitchens & Dining Spaces-
The state-of-the-art kitchen at the main house is designed as both a high-functioning cooking space and a natural gathering point. Brazilian quartzite brings organic movement and texture, while built-in appliance cabinetry gives the kitchen a calm, architectural presence. It adjoins the dining space so meals can move easily from preparation to the table, whether you are making a casual breakfast or cooking a celebratory dinner for the group. The dining room features a cocktail station complete with a beverage fridge.

The casita includes a second fully equipped kitchen finished in white oak, natural stone counters, and raw Zia zellige Moroccan tile. Its center island seats four and offers another relaxed place for coffee, conversation, or an easy meal.

Outside, two large dining tables - one at Solace and one at Shadow - create space for long, communal dinners, while the smaller dining area at Shadow is lovely for sunrise coffee and breakfast. Two gas BBQs makes it easy to cook outdoors as the sky changes, with every table oriented toward the landscape.

Both kitchens are stocked with cookware, utensils, olive oil, and a generous selection of spices. A drip coffee maker and French press are provided, along with coffee, tea, and sugar.

-Bedrooms & Bathrooms-
Across Solace Retreat, six thoughtfully designed bedrooms and six bathrooms give groups the rare luxury of gathering together while retaining genuine privacy.

The main house includes four bedrooms and four bathrooms. Three bedrooms each feature a king bed, private ensuite bathroom, built-in cabinetry for clothing storage, and a dedicated desk workspace. The fourth bedroom has a queen bed and access to a full bathroom in the hallway, which also serves the shared spaces of the home. The primary suite opens to its own private patio and outdoor shower, creating a secluded place to begin or end the day in the open air.

The casita adds two serene king suites, each with a private ensuite bathroom, luxury linens, dresser and closet storage, and its own desk space. Spa-inspired bathrooms feature rain walk-in showers and handcrafted Moroccan tile. The Shadow House primary suite also has a private outdoor lounge with a sectional and outdoor shower.

Each bedroom is designed as a retreat within the retreat. Natural textures, considered lighting, curated artwork, and views toward the desert create rooms that feel calm, personal, and grounded in their surroundings.

-Surrounding Area-
Joshua Tree National Park begins at the edge of the property. Step through the backyard and walk directly into a landscape of granite formations, open desert, native plant life, and the sculptural Joshua trees that give the park its name. The setting makes it easy to experience the park at a quieter pace, from early morning walks to golden-hour wandering, while the official park entrances and iconic trails are within easy driving distance.

Solace Retreat feels immersed in the desert but not isolated from the best of the area. Joshua Tree's restaurants, coffee shops, independent boutiques, galleries, and eclectic art spaces are only minutes away. Nearby experiences range from guided hikes, climbing, horseback riding, and stargazing to sound baths, yoga, massage, private chefs, and other wellness offerings that can be arranged at the retreat.

This is the High Desert at its most compelling: expansive but intimate, still but full of life, and close enough to town for convenience while feeling worlds away from an ordinary routine.

The entire retreat and its outdoor spaces are yours to enjoy. This includes Solace House, Shadow House, the pool and spas, both homes' patios and amenities, and the ten-acre property with direct backyard access into Joshua Tree National Park. A small number of housekeeping supply closets are locked and reserved for the local hospitality team.

A personal vehicle is necessary to get around in this area - rideshare apps are not guaranteed.

-Pool Heating Fee-
Should you wish to have the pool heated to 85 degrees, please notify us in advance of your arrival as there will be a supplemental charge per day for this service due to high fuel costs in this area. If you'd like the pool heated for multiple days, we ask that days be consecutive to conserve energy, thank you! Pool heating is not usually necessary May through September. Please note that we will need at least 24 hours' notice to heat the pool.

During the winter months, please be aware that colder outdoor temperatures may cause the pool to feel cooler than its maintained temperature of 85°F. We kindly ask that you ensure this temperature meets your comfort level before submitting a request, as refunds cannot be issued on this basis.

No fee to heat the in-ground hot tub!

-Hot Tub Heating-
Please note that the hot tub adjoined to the pool is an in-ground hot tub, it is not heated constantly in order to conserve energy. It will take around 30 minutes to heat to 104 degrees from ambient temperature. The separate hot tub at the casita is heated constantly at 104 degrees.

-Pool and Hot Tub Service-
The pool and hot tubs are serviced Mondays and Thursdays, approximately between 9am and 4pm. Please note that these times are estimates and may change slightly due to our technician's busy schedule. He will not approach the homes but will go directly to the outdoor water amenities.

-Dogs-
We welcome your dogs to the casita only (not the main house)! There is a $100 per dog per stay fee, limit of 2 dogs maximum. Please note on your reservation if you are bringing dog(s) and how many, and we will adjust the price accordingly. There is an unauthorized pet fee of $1000. Please use the provided dog sheets before allowing your dogs on any furniture. Cats and other pets are not allowed.

-Wildlife & Safety-
The desert landscape is teeming with wildlife and natural beauty, offering a unique connection to nature, but it’s important to be mindful of the creatures and plants that call this area home. Guests may encounter a variety of wildlife during their stay, and while direct encounters with dangerous animals like coyotes, snakes, scorpions, bobcats, mountain lions and other desert dwellers are rare, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and to keep a safe distance from these creatures when spotted. Additionally, the desert is dotted with sharp cacti and other spiky plants. For your safety, always supervise children, pets, ESAs, and service animals while outdoors. Dogs should remain on a leash at all times and be watched closely while outdoors, as they can wander into potentially unsafe situations with wildlife or plants. By booking this property, guests acknowledge the potential for wildlife encounters and assume responsibility for their safety and the safety of their group. By respecting the local environment and staying aware, you can fully enjoy the magic of the desert.

-Late Check Out-
Any unauthorized late check-out beyond the 15-minute grace period will incur a $100 fee for the first hour, with an additional $100 charged for every hour thereafter.
