SHR - Solace Retreat

Solace Retreat brings two architecturally distinct homes together on ten private acres bordering Joshua Tree National Park. Designed for groups of up to 16, this six-bedroom desert retreat pairs a spectacular pool and mountain views with intimate outdoor gathering spaces, two hot tubs and direct access into the park. Spend your days exploring the landscape, sharing meals and unwinding in considered spaces, with the freedom to come together or retreat into your own corner of the desert.

This home sits adjacent to Joshua Tree National Park and is surrounded by incredible wildlife, natural beauty, and some of the darkest night skies in Southern California. To help preserve this special environment and be considerate of our neighbors, we kindly ask all guests to keep music, conversations, and other noise at a respectful level throughout their stay.

This is not a party house. Please do not book this property if you are planning to party.

Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. All music must be turned off by 10:00 PM, and conversations should be kept at a low volume to avoid disturbing neighbors and wildlife. Only the property's built-in Sonos sound system may be used. Portable speakers, DJ equipment, amplified sound systems, and other external audio devices are strictly prohibited. Excess noise can result in county fines that will be passed on to you as the guest and the termination of your reservation without refund.

In support of Joshua Tree’s Dark Sky Ordinance and to minimize light pollution, all exterior landscape lighting automatically turns off at 9:00 PM each evening. For your convenience, we provide lanterns to help you safely navigate the outdoor areas after dark.

There is a sense of intention throughout this property, from the architecture that frames the surrounding Joshua trees to the quiet spaces designed for taking in the landscape. Solace House is rich and atmospheric, with limewashed walls, warm wood, natural stone and a dramatic tiled fireplace. A short distance away, Shadow House offers a lighter expression of desert design, with soaring wood-slatted ceilings, white oak cabinetry and handcrafted Moroccan tile. Together, the two homes create a setup for larger groups: generous spaces for everyone to gather, balanced by the privacy of separate living quarters, kitchens and outdoor retreats.

The outdoor spaces are equally considered. At the main house, the pool stretches toward an uninterrupted desert panorama, while the adjoining hot tub and sunken fire pit invite long afternoons that turn into evenings outdoors. Shadow House has its own hot tub, cowboy tub and outdoor lounge areas, giving guests another place to settle in. Beyond the homes, ten acres of Joshua trees and native desert lead directly to the boundary of Joshua Tree National Park, with a private backyard path connecting you to the landscape.

-Outdoor Amenities-
The landscape is central to the experience at Solace Retreat. Mature Joshua trees, sculptural boulders and native vegetation surround the homes, with mountains rising beyond the property. There is plenty of room to explore, find a quiet place to read or simply enjoy the remarkable stillness of the desert. A private path from the backyard leads directly into Joshua Tree National Park.

At Solace House, the swimming pool takes center stage. Its clean, rectangular design follows the lines of the architecture, with expansive views of the surrounding wilderness. Settle into one of the oversized loungers on the wooden deck, take a swim or relax in the adjoining in-ground hot tub. As the afternoon cools, the sunken conversation fire pit becomes a natural gathering place, with deep seating arranged for evenings spent together.

Outdoor dining areas make it easy to bring meals outside, whether you're grilling for the group or lingering around the table. A hanging daybed offers a shaded place to relax, while the stargazing net bed provides an entirely different perspective on the desert after dark. There is also a dedicated outdoor pad for yoga, meditation or a private sound bath.

Shadow House has an outdoor retreat of its own. A built-in hot tub and six-foot cowboy tub sit side by side on the deck, surrounded by comfortable Sunbrella pouf loungers. A second gas fire pit, BBQ and outdoor dining area make this a destination in its own right. The sunken floating hammock bed is an especially inviting spot for an afternoon outdoors, while the primary suite's private patio, sectional seating and outdoor shower offer additional privacy.

With two separate outdoor gathering areas, guests can spend the day together around the main pool or spread out between the homes without feeling disconnected.

-Living Area-
Solace House has a warm, intimate atmosphere that feels especially inviting after a day in the desert. The living room is anchored by a floor-to-ceiling tiled gas fireplace, its earthy tones complemented by textured walls, dark wood ceilings, sculptural furnishings and carefully selected art.

A generous U-shaped built-in sectional creates a comfortable gathering place for conversation, games or a movie on the large Frame TV. Integrated sound and a nearby cocktail station complete the space, making it equally suited to a quiet evening by the fire or a relaxed night with friends.

Shadow House offers a brighter, more open living experience. High, white wood-slatted ceilings and expansive sliding glass doors bring the surrounding desert into view, while natural materials and understated furnishings give the space a calm, contemporary feel.

A plush sofa provides comfortable seating and converts into a queen bed for additional guests. A large smart TV and Sonos speakers make this a fully equipped second living room, ideal when different members of the group want to enjoy their own activities.

Books, board games, yoga mats, yoga blocks and bocce are available throughout the property.

-Kitchen and Dining-
With two full kitchens and multiple dining spaces, Solace Retreat is particularly well suited to groups who enjoy cooking and eating together without having to organize every meal around a single kitchen.

The main kitchen at Solace House combines Brazilian quartzite, streamlined cabinetry and contemporary appliances with a warm, architectural finish. An adjoining dining room creates a welcoming setting for shared meals, while the cocktail station and beverage refrigerator make it easy to keep drinks and refreshments close at hand.

At Shadow House, the kitchen feels like a natural extension of the living space. White oak cabinetry, natural stone countertops and Zia zellige tile bring texture and warmth, while illuminated open shelving displays a carefully curated collection of ceramics and glassware. The kitchen island seats four, making it an easy spot for breakfast, a casual lunch or conversation while someone prepares dinner.

Both kitchens are stocked with cookware, dishes, olive oil, spices, drip coffee makers, French presses, coffee, tea and sugar.

Outside, two larger dining tables, a smaller breakfast table and two gas BBQs offer plenty of opportunities to enjoy meals in the open air. Having a kitchen and dining area at each home also allows guests to maintain separate routines when they prefer.

-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-
Solace Retreat offers six thoughtfully designed bedrooms and six bathrooms across its two homes, accommodating up to 16 guests. Five bedrooms feature king beds and ensuite bathrooms, providing a particularly comfortable arrangement for couples traveling together. A queen bedroom and an additional queen sleeper sofa complete the sleeping accommodations.

Solace House | Four Bedrooms, Four Bathrooms

The main house features three king suites, each with its own ensuite bathroom, built-in clothing storage and desk. The bedrooms embrace the home's moodier design, with rich finishes, warm lighting and views of the surrounding desert.

The primary king suite opens directly to a private outdoor patio with an outdoor shower, creating a peaceful space to begin or end the day.

A fourth bedroom features a queen bed and access to a full bathroom in the hallway.

Shadow House | Two Bedrooms, Two Bathrooms

The detached casita includes two king suites, each with an ensuite bathroom featuring a rain shower and beautiful Moroccan tilework. Both bedrooms include storage and a desk, offering guests a comfortable space to settle in for a longer stay.

The primary suite opens to its own private outdoor lounge with sectional seating and an outdoor shower. The second bedroom shares the casita's warm, contemporary aesthetic, combining natural materials with thoughtfully layered textures.

An additional queen sleeper sofa in the casita's living room provides flexible sleeping arrangements for larger groups.

Because Shadow House is a separate residence with its own kitchen, living room and outdoor amenities, it works especially well for guests who want to vacation together while retaining a greater degree of independence.

-Casita Hot Tub and Cowboy Tub-
One of the property's most distinctive features is the private outdoor retreat at Shadow House, where a built-in hot tub and a six-foot cowboy tub sit together on the deck.

The hot tub is maintained at 104°F, making it an inviting place to relax throughout your stay. The cowboy tub offers a different, more laid-back way to enjoy the desert surroundings and is a traditional cowboy tub rather than an in-ground swimming pool.

Nearby pouf loungers, the floating hammock bed and a gas fire pit create an intimate setting for an afternoon away from the main pool or a peaceful evening under the desert sky.

Both the second hot tub and the cowboy tub are located at Shadow House.

-Surrounding Area-
Joshua Tree National Park begins at the edge of the property, so the granite formations and open desert are a walk away, and the official entrances and trails, including the West Entrance, are an easy drive. Downtown Joshua Tree, with its restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques and galleries, is close by, and so is Old Town Yucca Valley. The last 0.7 miles to the house are dirt road.

The entire house and property are yours to enjoy! Please note that a few supply closets stay locked to store rental supplies.

The whole property is yours, including Solace House, Shadow House, the pool and hot tubs and both homes' patios. A few housekeeping supply closets are locked and reserved for our local team.

A personal vehicle is necessary to get around in this area - rideshare apps are not guaranteed.

Please note that Solace Retreat is in a remote location, and the final stretch to the home is on dirt roads, so please take it slow. The dirt roads are maintained, and a four-wheel drive car is not necessary, but please note that the dirt road conditions vary and may have bumps and ruts, particularly after rainstorms.

The hot tub at the casita is kept heated at 104°F. The casita's 6-foot cowboy tub is a cowboy tub, not an in-ground pool.

-EV Chargers-
There are two standard 220V EV chargers. Please bring an adapter if your vehicle needs one.

-House-Specific Rules-
► Please shower before using the pool, hot tub and cowboy tub, and do not add bath products, oils or bubble bath to the water. Please avoid using the Shadow House hot tub and cowboy tub right after they have been serviced, while chemical levels are temporarily higher.

-Pool Heating Fee-
Should you wish to have the pool heated to 85 degrees, please notify us in advance of your arrival, as there will be a supplemental charge per day for this service due to high fuel costs in this area. If you'd like the pool heated for multiple days, we ask that days be consecutive to conserve energy, thank you! Pool heating is not usually necessary May through September. Please note that we will need at least 24 hours' notice to heat the pool.

During the winter months, please be aware that colder outdoor temperatures may cause the pool to feel cooler than its maintained temperature of 85°F. We kindly ask that you ensure this temperature meets your comfort level before submitting a request, as refunds cannot be issued on this basis.

-Hot Tub Heating-
No fee to heat the hot tub! Please note that because the hot tub is an in-ground hot tub, it is not heated constantly in order to conserve energy. It will take around 30 minutes to heat to 104 degrees from ambient temperature.

-Pool and Hot Tub Service-
The pool and hot tubs are serviced Mondays and Thursdays, approximately between 9am and 4pm. Please note that these times are estimates and may change slightly due to our technician's busy schedule. He will not approach the homes but will go directly to the outdoor water amenities.

-Pet Policy-
We welcome your dogs! There is a $100 per dog per stay fee, limit of 2 dogs maximum. Please note on your reservation how many dogs you are bringing. There is an unauthorized pet fee of $500. Please use the provided dog sheets before allowing your dogs on any furniture. Cats and other pets are not allowed.

-Wildlife & Safety-
The desert landscape is teeming with wildlife and natural beauty, offering a unique connection to nature, but it's important to be mindful of the creatures and plants that call this area home. Guests may encounter a variety of wildlife during their stay, and while direct encounters with dangerous animals like coyotes, snakes, scorpions, bobcats, mountain lions and other desert dwellers are rare, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and to keep a safe distance from these creatures when spotted. Additionally, the desert is dotted with sharp cacti and other spiky plants. For your safety, always supervise children, pets, ESAs, and service animals while outdoors. Dogs should remain on a leash at all times and be watched closely while outdoors, as they can wander into potentially unsafe situations with wildlife or plants. By booking this property, guests acknowledge the potential for wildlife encounters and assume responsibility for their safety and the safety of their group. By respecting the local environment and staying aware, you can fully enjoy the magic of the desert.

For your security, there are exterior cameras on the property, which monitor vehicles and occupancy. There are no cameras inside either home or facing any private areas, including the pool, hot tub and outdoor shower areas.

Cell phone coverage in the area may be limited or unavailable depending on your carrier. Wi-Fi is available at the property.
