VLP - Villa Paloma

Villa Paloma is a design-forward desert retreat set among dramatic boulders on more than four hilltop acres in Yucca Valley. Inspired by Mediterranean and Mexican coastal living, this three-bedroom home invites you to slow down, soak in the hot tub, practice yoga among the rocks, and gather for long meals beneath century-old Joshua trees. With sweeping mountain views, a sunset perch, and three ensuite bedrooms, it's a beautiful place to reconnect with the desert and each other.

Originally a 1952 homestead cabin, Villa Paloma was thoughtfully reimagined in 2021 by designers Wolfgang and Connie Pichler. Whitewashed walls, arched doorways, terracotta textiles, natural wood, and handwoven details bring together the relaxed character of Mediterranean villas and the artisan traditions of Mexico. The result is a home that feels warm, playful, and entirely at ease in its surroundings.

Set against the rugged landscape at the edge of a protected wilderness zone, the property unfolds across a series of inviting indoor and outdoor spaces. A conversation lounge encourages afternoons spent together, while quiet corners, private bedroom suites, and outdoor retreats offer plenty of room to disappear with a book. Beyond the house, paths lead to shaded terraces, boulder-top gathering spots, and expansive views toward Joshua Tree National Park.

-Outdoor Amenities-
Villa Paloma's outdoor spaces are an essential part of the experience, with several distinct places to relax, gather, and appreciate the surrounding landscape.

The raised yoga and meditation deck sits among sculptural boulders and native desert plants. It's a peaceful spot to stretch, meditate, or settle into the cushions with a morning coffee. A low table and propane fire pit make the same space inviting after dark, when the surrounding rocks become a beautiful setting for stargazing.

Closer to the house, a shaded patio beneath a reed pergola offers a generous outdoor dining table surrounded by mature Joshua trees, junipers, agaves, and ocotillos. Prepare something on the propane BBQ, share lunch in the shade, or linger over dinner as the desert begins to cool.

For warm afternoons, the cowboy tub offers a refreshing dip, while the hot tub provides a place to soak beneath the open sky. An outdoor shower, lounge chairs, and a hanging rattan swing complete the relaxed outdoor atmosphere. Guests can also enjoy friendly games of cornhole or horseshoes.

One of the property's most memorable features is its elevated sunset perch. Two swivel loungers offer uninterrupted 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains, valley, and rocky terrain. Bring a drink, settle in, and watch the changing colors move across the landscape.

The property encompasses more than four acres of natural desert terrain and is not fully fenced. The cowboy tub is drained and unavailable from November through March.

-Living Area-
Inside, Villa Paloma's bright, understated interiors are designed for comfort without losing their sense of character. Earthy colors, warm woods, woven textures, and thoughtfully selected artwork add personality to the clean architectural lines.

The centerpiece is a distinctive 270-degree conversation lounge, where a built-in sofa wraps around the room with generous rust-colored cushions and soft pillows. It's an inviting place for everyone to settle in, whether sharing stories after a day exploring Joshua Tree, watching a movie on the smart TV, or enjoying a quiet evening by the fireplace.

A small collection of vintage books, comfortable window seating, and additional lounging areas create opportunities for quieter moments throughout the house. For guests who need to stay connected, a dedicated workspace and Starlink Wi-Fi make it easy to fit in a little work between adventures.

-Kitchen and Dining-
The kitchen continues the home's relaxed, handcrafted aesthetic with white cabinetry, open natural-wood shelving, warm hardware, and an abundance of daylight.

A gas range, stainless steel appliances, dishwasher, and well-stocked cookware make preparing meals at home easy. Whether you're putting together breakfast before exploring the park or preparing dinner with friends, the practical layout keeps everything within reach.

The coffee and cocktail bar is a particularly inviting spot, with panoramic desert views providing a beautiful backdrop for a morning coffee or evening drink.

Nearby, the indoor dining space seats eight beneath skylights and woven pendant lighting. For meals outdoors, the covered dining terrace offers an entirely different atmosphere, with its generous wooden table, shaded seating, and surrounding Joshua trees.

-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-
Villa Paloma accommodates up to six guests across three bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom. The arrangement is especially appealing for couples traveling together or a group of friends who appreciate gathering in shared spaces while having a private place to retreat.

The primary suite features a king bed framed by a warm, arched headboard, layered textiles, and a cozy window seat. Its bathroom is a highlight of the home, with a freestanding soaking tub, rainfall shower, patterned tile, and sculptural fixtures. The soaking tub sits beside a large window, creating a peaceful setting for a long bath.

The two additional bedrooms carry the same considered approach to design, with comfortable bedding, soft neutral palettes, woven wall accents, and subtle Southwestern details. Each has the convenience and privacy of its own ensuite bathroom.

Organic bath products are provided, along with fresh linens and towels.

Villa Paloma is a place to spend as much time enjoying the house as exploring the desert beyond it. From leisurely meals beneath the Joshua trees to quiet afternoons among the boulders and evenings watching the landscape change color, every part of the property encourages a different way to unwind.
